Welcome to the 2012 - 2013 Calgary REC Hockey season! This seasons registration is our most successful ever with two new team added in Pee Wee, Bantam and Midget. Calgary REC Hockey Players / Parents / Volunteers,

Welcome to the 2012 - 2013 Calgary REC Hockey season!

This seasons registration is our most successful ever with two new team added in Pee Wee, Bantam and Midget. Our total registration for this season is just short of 900 players making REC one of the largest, and most successful, hockey programs in Calgary.

Calgary REC Hockey continues to appeal to players and families at all levels because of our philosophy, "Provide opportunities for players, ages 11 to 20, to play hockey that is affordable, fun and safe with moderate time commitments. The organization encourages and supports  good sportsmanship, fair play, friendship and respect. We stand by our commitment that body checking and aggressive behavior will not be tolerated."

To emphasize our philosophy I want to highlight some rules, and changes, that are unique to  Calgary REC Hockey for everyone involved, but especially for those new to our organization.

*         Players receiving 3 penalties of any type in any game will immediately be ejected from the game.

*         A player receiving a misconduct in the final minutes of a game, and is unable to serve their full time, will have the remaining time carried over to the next game they play.

*         A player receiving a major penalty is immediately ejected from the game and receives an additional 2 game suspension

*         If a player receives a total of 10 penalties in a season - player suspended for one game

*         If a player receives a total of 15 penalties in a season - players suspended for one game (new for 2012 - 2013 season)

*         If a player receives a total of 20 penalties in a season - player suspended for minimum of three games - subject to review by division coordinator (was 2 game suspension in past seasons)

*         If a player receives a total of 25 penalties in a season - suspensions for 25 penalties will range from game suspensions to not being welcome back to our association for the following season based on the findings of a discipline committee review.

The changes for the 2012 - 2013 season, adding a one game suspension at 15 penalties plateau and changing suspension for 20 penalties from 2 games to 3 games, is a further attempt by the REC Hockey board to discourage aggressive play and to focus on FUN!

Thanks to all of you for choosing Calgary REC hockey.

Have a great season!

Michael Tebbutt

President, Calgary REC Hockey

**Please note: "Any 3 penalties in one game: Ejection from the game (or a 5 minute Major). Double Minor for Head Shot counts as 2 penalties.
